Angels Story

Angel the Doberman

Angel the Doberman was born approximately 05/01/01. We found her at the ASPCA in Goose Creek, Berkley County, South Carolina in September of 2002. We had a Doberman in the 1980's named Delilah, who was one of the best dogs we had ever been fortunate enough to share our home with. When the time was right for a new dog in our lives it just had to be another Dobe.

The first time we layed eyes on Angel it was love at first site. She was exactly what we had been looking for. A young female with a good temperment. Angel's tail was docked a little too long and her ears were left natural. We were not sure if we liked the ears but didn't let a little thing like that stand in the way of adopting her. We  now have grown to love her natural ears and would never dream of having a Dobe pups ears altered. All in all, she is simply beautiful.

Angel had not been abused but rather neglected. She weighed only 59 lbs. when we first saw her. We adopted her that day and left her at the ASPCA to be spayed. Pearl, the nice lady who helped pair us up, did not want Angel to leave without being spayed. Well, we left her there for two weeks before the doctor finally said she was to thin for the operation so we brought the happy girl home to put some meat on her bones. In two weeks time she was ready to be spayed. As good as they are, the ASPCA really doesn't have the resources to give individualized care to one animal. We took Angel back to The ASPCA for the operation and it all went very well.

Angel now weighs 90 lbs and is very happy in her extra large fenced in yard by day and cozy inside bed by night. We could not have asked for a better match for us. Angel is a pure delight. She's great around children and adults. Very socialble. She loves attention. She loves the water and most of all, she loves her new life here with us.

If you or someone you know is an animal lover, please don't hesitate to volunteer your time and resources at you local Animal Shelter. Whether it's a Humane Society or ASPCA or whatever, these folks are here looking out for the welfare of neglected and abused animals. These organizations are run primarily from community involvement and individual donations. Got some spare time? Go to the shelter and walk a few dogs. You'll feel better and the dogs will love it!

Angel and Her Bathtime
Angel really enjoys her bath. She pretends to not like it, but I know better. I would usually bath her outside however, it is January, 30 degrees and raining. The grandaughters are coming over to spend the night so I thought it would be nice to bath Angel so she can sleep with the girls. While [...]

Recipes Recipes Everywhere Recipes
It’s simply amazing how many doggie treat recipes you can find in cyberspace. Not only dog treat recipes but real dog food recipes too. Seems there are many dog owners out there that don’t trust the national brand dog food. We will be experimenting with some of the doggie treat recipes from time to time and [...]

My Neighbors’ Black Lab
Dave and Kristy are terrific dog owners. They adopted a black lab puppy last year and in fact she turned one year old on September 1st, 2009. Anyway, Beast (named by Kayleigh, Dave and Kristy’s 5 year old daughter) has it made. If it’s not raining she gets long walks/runs most every morning through the woods [...]

Training Tips
HOLE DIGGERS   To stop your dog from digging up the yard put his poop in the holes. He will eventually stop the digging and who knows, he might even cover the holes back up. SIT UP From the sit position, hold a treat just far enough away that the dog can’t snatch it and while you [...]

Max the Beagle/Sheltie
What a great little companion. Max reminds of the movie “Sounder” ’cause he barks at every little move he sees or every little sound he hears. He’s one terrific watch dog. He shares his large fenced in yard with Angel the Doberman and they absolutely love one another.  Occasionally, Max will slip out of the [...]

Bronx, The Blue American Terrier
Bronx, the Blue American Terrier, was born on Saturday July 25th, 2009. Our family adopted him on August 27th at barely five weeks old. He is so small right now that it’s hard to imagine him full grown and weighing up to 100 lbs. Then he’ll be needin’ some large dog products. As all puppies are, [...]
