A portable dog wash tub is ideal for bathing your dog outdoors, but when the weather doesn't co-operate we still have to rely on the shower or the bathtub. Bath time should be a stress free activity and can strengthen the bond between you and your dog if done correctly.

Some dogs are intimidated when they realize they're fixing to get a bath, but it doesn't have to be that way. Following are five pointers to help you get organized and make your dog a little more comfortable in the bathing process.

1- Get everything ready before you introduce the dog to the bath. You do not want to leave the dog in the tub while you go get something you forgot. Shampoo, conditioner, brush, wash rag and dry towel should all be placed in a convenient location.

2-Go ahead and turn the water on. Whether it is a garden hose or your shower, it should be a gentle spray so it doesn't scare your dog. When the weather permits, outdoor bathing is less stressful than a small closed in bathroom shower.

3- With the leash, gently and calmly coerce the dog to the bath. Never pull the dog forcefully toward the bath. If the dog is very hesitant, pick them up and place them in the bathtub. Constantly talk to the dog to reinforce what a fun time this is going to be. A quality dog wash tub will have a leash retainer to keep the dog in the tub and free up both of your hands for the bath.

4- Always use a shampoo specially formulated for dogs. Never wet your dog's head, face or ears with the spray. Use a damp washrag to clean their face and ears. Do not allow water to get in the dog's ear canal. Always use an ear cleaning solution and make sure the ear canal is moisture free.

5- After rinsing, turn the water off. A leash retainer will allow you to thoroughly dry the dog while you continue to reinforce good feelings. Now comes the famous doggie shake down afterwhich you'll need to run the towel over the dog one final time.

A well designed portable dog wash tub will have a no-slip surface and a drainage nozzle for easy clean up. It should also be easy to store away for the next bath time.
